HarmonyKeen is a desktop music tool that turns a MIDI melody into real, editable harmony. Choose a harmony style to add another instrumental line, build vocal parts, find a countermelody, or develop the melody into a fuller arrangement. When it sounds right, move the finished parts directly into your DAW.

HarmonyKeen works with a single-line melody. Import a single-track, monophonic MIDI file, write the notes in the piano roll, or play the melody with a MIDI keyboard. It doesn’t import audio recordings or full polyphonic arrangements.

No. HarmonyKeen is deeply rooted in real music theory and applies those principles for you, so you can focus on what sounds right. You can work by ear, inspect every note and chord, or choose the key and scale yourself. Knowing music theory may help you put names to what you hear, but you can use HarmonyKeen’s full range of controls without it.

No. Four-Part (SATB) and Close Harmony are especially useful for vocal writing, but every result is editable MIDI. A part might become a second guitar line, a string or brass layer, a synth pad or ambient texture, or another part supporting the melody. Sing the parts, assign them to software or hardware instruments, or combine both in the same arrangement.

Yes. Every generated part appears on its own track. Edit any note or phrase, mute parts, choose alternate chords that still fit the melody, or generate again with a different harmony style or settings. You decide what stays.

Yes. Switch to the score view and your arrangement is written out as sheet music, laid out like piano music on two staves, with your key signature, time signature, rests, ties and beams. Drag a note on the page to change its pitch or timing, and you’ll hear it as you move it. When it’s right, print it, save a PDF, or export MusicXML, the format MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale and Dorico all read, so the music arrives still editable instead of as a flat picture. You choose which voices to include. It’s built for reading, checking and sharing what HarmonyKeen wrote, so it stops there: no triplets, lyrics, dynamics or chord symbols yet, and it’s one piano-style score rather than a separate part for each player.

HarmonyKeen creates editable MIDI parts. It doesn’t render final audio files, but you can hear your arrangement inside the app using 25 included instruments. When you’re ready, export the MIDI or drag the tracks directly into your DAW and choose the final sounds there. You can also take the arrangement out as sheet music, printed or as a PDF.

Yes, and it’s included with every license. The installer puts three versions on your Mac: HarmonyKeen as a VST3, for Reaper and most VST3 hosts; HarmonyKeen as an Audio Unit, under MIDI effects or AU instruments in Logic Pro and Reaper; and HarmonyKeen (for GarageBand only), under AU instruments. The GarageBand version exists because GarageBand does not host MIDI effect plugins, so that one presents itself as an instrument and plays through its own sound. The others send MIDI and make no sound of their own: put a synth or sampler after them, and that instrument is what you hear. It’s the same panel as the app. Open the desktop app once and press Generate before you start in your DAW. That is where the free trial begins, and the plugin reads the license the app writes.

Yes, two ways. Run HarmonyKeen as a plugin on a track inside Logic Pro, Reaper, GarageBand and most VST3 hosts, and drag the parts onto tracks from there. Or work in the desktop app and bring the result across. If your DAW imports standard MIDI, yes. Export the full arrangement, save each track separately, export only the harmony, or drag tracks straight from HarmonyKeen into your DAW. The parts remain editable, so you can assign instruments and continue shaping the arrangement there. HarmonyKeen also ships as VST3 and Audio Unit plugins, included in the same purchase at no extra cost, so you can work without leaving your session. See "Is there a plugin?" above.

Yes. The trial runs for seven days with every feature available, and it needs no card and no account. It starts the first time you generate harmony, which is the one moment it needs an internet connection: the app asks us for the trial license, and if we cannot be reached it tells you and you can try again. After that it is stored on your computer and works offline like any other license. When the seven days are up, your work stays on your computer and a license brings the app back.

Available now for macOS. Windows is coming, and your license already covers it. One license covers both, on the computers you own or control. macOS 11 or later, on Apple Silicon. We'll publish Windows requirements when that build ships.

Yes. HarmonyKeen already includes a substantial set of tools for writing, shaping, auditioning, and exporting harmony, and active development is continuing. Future updates will bring new features and refinements as they’re ready. We’ll share details when there’s something concrete to announce.

No account is required to use HarmonyKeen. Harmony generation, editing, playback, and project storage all happen on your computer. You’ll need internet access to purchase and download the app, receive your license, and download updates. You don’t need to stay online while making music.

Yes. Your music is yours. You may use anything you create with HarmonyKeen for any purpose, including commercial work. We claim no rights in the harmonies, MIDI, or project files you make, and you owe us nothing for using them.

No. HarmonyKeen doesn’t use generative AI to create harmony. It uses a deterministic music-theory engine, so the same melody and settings always produce the same result. You can see and edit every note and chord.

Your melodies, projects, generated harmonies, and settings stay on your computer. HarmonyKeen doesn’t upload your music or use analytics, advertising tracking, or session replay. When you buy the app, Polar handles your payment and sends us the email address needed to deliver and support your license. Messages you send to support remain in our support mailbox.
