Bring in your melody

Drop a MIDI file onto HarmonyKeen, draw it in the piano roll, or play it in from a keyboard. However it arrives, HarmonyKeen reads the notes and works out the key on its own.

HarmonyKeen writes the harmony

HarmonyKeen ships a set of harmony styles, from close thirds to a full counter melody, each a different way of writing around a melody. This example uses Four-Part (SATB): it treats your melody as one voice in a four-part texture and writes the other three around it.

Placement decides whether that harmony sits above your melody, below it, or split both ways. Four-Part (SATB) splits it both ways here, with one part above and two below, while your melody stays exactly where you placed it.

You always have the final say

Expect the harmony you want in one take. Change as little or as much as you like: swap a single chord for one that still fits your melody, try a different style, or edit the notes yourself.

Every version you try stays there to come back to. The same melody and the same settings always produce the same harmony, so you can explore freely and return to whichever one you liked.

Into your DAW, or onto the page

When the arrangement is where you want it, it leaves HarmonyKeen as a real MIDI file, ready to drop straight into your session. Bring melody and harmony together as a Single MIDI file, keep every part on its own with Separate tracks, or take just the new writing by itself with Harmony only.

Or skip the DAW and take the page instead: print the score, save a PDF, or export MusicXML for a notation program.

Each style brings its own Advanced Shaping controls.

Every style: Duration sets how long the generated notes ring.
Full Chords and Smooth Chords: Spread sets how far apart the parts sit, Closeness moves the whole harmony nearer to or further from your melody, and Humanize adds the small timing and loudness differences that make parts sound played rather than typed.
Four-Part (SATB): Role Detection decides which structural voice your melody becomes.
